Meeting with TCI on Oct 2023

The seminar was organized by the Thai Journal Citation Index Centre (TCI) in collaboration with Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI), King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), and Scopus. The objectives of the seminar are to inform the participants about the procedures and expectations to evaluate journal quality based on the Scopus Title Evaluation Platform (STEP), as well as techniques for improving journals’ quality. The target groups of this seminar are the journals from both the “Quality Improvement of Thai Journals for Indexing in Scopus, Phase 2” and “Quality Improvement of Thai Journals for Indexing in Scopus (2023-2025)” projects. There were 250 participants (93 journals) in this seminar.

In the beginning, Dr. Kanyawim Kirtikara (Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation) opened the seminar and gave a speech about TCI. Then, Prof. Dr. Narongrit Sombatsompop (TCI Head) talked about the progress on quality improvement of Thai journals indexed in Scopus (2017–present). After that, the topics “Scopus journal selection criteria: What are expected from CSAB when evaluating local journals for indexing in Scopus?” and “Tips 1: How CSAB evaluates non-English journals for Scopus inclusion/Tips 2: How local journals in Scopus maintain or improve the quality” were presented by Prof. Richard Whatmore (University of St Andrews). Then, “Performances of Thai journals in Scopus were shared by Dr. Nongyao Sripromsuk (TCI). At the end of the seminar, there was a Q&A session, which helped the editorial team gain knowledge and understand the relevant issues.
