The College of Graduate Studies (CGS), Walailak University (WU) recently hosted an impactful workshop on public speaking, offering an opportunity for graduate students, staff, and lecturers to enhance their communication skills.

As the participants gathered eagerly for the workshop on June 21, 2023, Associate Professor Dr.Phongpichit Channuie, the dean of CGS took the stage, exuding an aura of enthusiasm and inspiration. In his address, the dean shared his vision for the workshop and emphasized the pivotal role that effective public speaking plays in academic and professional success.

After the dean shared his vision, the workshop was led by experienced trainers, Miss Alisa Chalerychit and Dr. Arnulfo Arniel.

Morning Session: Building Essential Public Speaking Skills

The workshop commenced with an engaging morning session that focused on imparting crucial knowledge and skills necessary for public speaking. Miss Alisa and Dr. Arnie, renowned trainers in the field, shared their expertise on various topics, including:

  1. Overcoming stage fright: Participants learned strategies to manage nervousness and build self-confidence when speaking in front of an audience.
  2. Structure and organization: The trainers guided attendees on the art of structuring a presentation, including the importance of a clear introduction, a logical flow of ideas, and a powerful conclusion.
  3. Engaging the audience: Participants were introduced to techniques for capturing and maintaining audience attention, including storytelling, humor, and interactive elements.

Afternoon Session: Group Discussion and Practice Session

In the afternoon, the workshop transitioned into a group discussion and practice session, allowing participants to apply the knowledge gained in the morning session. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions, share experiences, and exchange ideas on public speaking.

One of the highlights of the workshop was the “naked presentation” segment. Participants were encouraged to present a topic of their choice. This exercise aimed to strengthen their speaking skills, emphasizing the importance of clear and concise communication. Following each presentation, trainers provided constructive feedback, highlighting strengths and suggesting areas for improvement.
