Doctor of Philosophy Program in Agro-Industry and Biotechnology, Walailak University is an interdisciplinary program that focuses on graduate having knowledge and high potential in Agro-Industry and Biotechnology for response to the national strategy and industry of Thailand. The program provides advanced study and research training opportunities to graduate students which will be a research-based degree leading to dissertations and publications. In addition, the program is constructed to provide graduate students with an understanding of research principles, practices and skills to conduct independent basic and applied research. The students will be potential to collaborate with international research networks in the interested area.
The program focuses on the research expertise based on dissertations in a wide range area of Agro-Industry and Biotechnology under supervision of professional staff in Agro-Industry and Biotechnology fields. In addition, the program provides the scientific training to support students’ research dissertations through the seminars and intensive workshops or courses, including conceptual foundations of Agro-Industry and Biotechnology, research methodology, ethics of scientific research and scientific communication (in writing, speaking and visual presentation). The graduate in this program will be required two publications in international academic journals and an oral presentation in an international conference.

- Ph.D. applicants (Thai or Foreigner) must have a master’s degree in Agro-Industry, Sciences, Food Science, Food Technology, Biotechnology, or other related fields.
- Required English score of 500 points of TOEFL ITP or be equivalent (see English comparison table)
- Other qualifications as approved by the Commission of Graduate Studies of Program.
2. Study Plan. Type 1.2 (For Bachelor’s degree holders)
- Ph.D. applicants (Thai or Foreigner) must have a bachelor’s degree in Agro-Industry, Sciences, Food Science, Food Technology, Biotechnology, or other related fields.
- Required English score of 500 points of TOEFL ITP or be equivalent (see English comparison table)
- Other qualifications as approved by the Commission of Graduate Studies of Program.

SELECTION PROCESS
- All received applications will be assessed and ranked against the eligible criteria for the available quota by the University committee.
- Outcome will be circulated after the selection process is finalized.
GRADUATION CRITERIA
Two published papers, or at least accepted for publishing, in international scientific journals.

- PLO1: Have knowledge and be able to integrate academics in the agro-industry and biotechnology focusing on creating innovation through the topic of the thesis that can be used to solve problems for the community, agro-industry and biotechnology at all levels.
- PLO2: Able to work either in the government sector, private sector or private business.
- PLO3: Have research skills at the international standard in conducting research.
- PLO4: Have several skills including English language, information technology, creatives, solving immediate problems, and communication with others.
- PLO5: Have morals, ethics and professional ethics.

- Other qualifications as approved by the Commission of Graduate Studies of Program.

- PH.D. applicants (Thai or Foreigner) must have a bachelor’s degree in Agro-Industry, Sciences, Food Science, Food Technology, Biotechnology, or other related fields.
- Following regulation of Walailak University on graduate studies, 2017.
- Other qualifications as approved by the Commission of Graduate Studies of Program.
*PH.D. applicants must have the English exam results in accordance with the criteria, 2017, number 18.1.4.6 and the criteria (version 2), 2017. In addition, for other PH.D. applicants who get external scholarships and have the English exam results at the beginning of admission between 450-499 points will be approved to be general graduate students. Also, they must show their English exam results (TOEFL) that aren’t less than 500 points before requesting to do thesis test for graduation. This will be approved by the Commission of Graduate Studies of Program as well.
