On March 16th, 2023, Asst. Prof. Dr. Siriporn Somboonboorana, Editor-in-Chief of Asia Social Issues, and Mrs. Opor Ninlaart, Manager of Asia Social Issues (ASI), attended the 2nd Seminar on TCI-TSRI-Scopus Collaboration at Surasak Ballroom, 11th Floor, Eastin Grand Hotel Sathon in Bangkok, Thailand. The seminar was organized by the Thai Journal Citation Index Centre (TCI) in collaboration with Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI), Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Institute (STIPI), and National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC). There were 90 participants from 45 journals at the seminar. At the beginning of the seminar, Professor Dr. Narongrit Sombatsompop, the Head of the Thai Journal Citation Index Center, presented an overview of Phases 1 and 2 of the TCI-TSRI-Scopus Collaboration Project, which helped push 40 journals into the Scopus database and increase the number of Thai articles. The project has also improved the quality of these journals to achieve higher journal quartile rankings. Therefore, TCI Center will continue the project in phases 1-2 to develop the quality of Thai journals for inclusion in the Scopus database in 2023-2025 and further improve their journal quartile rankings from 2023-2026. Then, Ms. Tracy Chen, Senior Product Manager, Content and Policy from Elsevier, presented details on the Scopus database, including the number of documents indexed in Scopus, the number of CSAB, as well as criteria for evaluating journals for inclusion in Scopus. After that, Professor Julie Li, CSAB Chair – Business, Management & Accounting; Economics, Econometrics & Finance, from City University of Hong Kong, presented the role of CSAB in evaluating journal quality for inclusion in Scopus. She explained that there are five criteria for evaluating journals: journal policy, quality of content, journal standing, regularity, and online availability. She also provided examples of different issues that CSAB considers during the evaluation process. During the seminar, participants asked questions and raised concerns related to the processes and criteria for evaluating journals for inclusion in the Scopus database. Both speakers provided detailed and clear answers to various questions, which helped the editorial team gain knowledge and understanding of the relevant issues.
