From November 26–28, 2024, Walailak University senior executives visited several embassies in Bangkok to foster international collaboration and promote graduate student recruitment. The meetings focused on building long-term academic cooperation, scholarship opportunities, and initiatives to enhance Thailand’s role as a regional hub for higher education.
Dr. Suthasinee Saengkham, Assistant to the President of Walailak University, together with Asst. Prof. Dr. Wachiraporn Poungjinda, Assistant Dean for International Affairs, College of Graduate Studies, participated in the Diplomatic Courtesy Visits aimed at strengthening cooperation with diplomatic missions.
The delegations visited:
- Mr. Otaka Masato, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Thailand
- Mr. Dickson Agwu Chibueze, Consular Officer, Embassy of Nigeria
- Mr. Karma Chosar, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Bhutan
During the discussions, Dr. Suthasinee emphasized opportunities for collaboration, including:
- Developing academic programs tailored to the needs of each country
- Faculty and student exchanges, inviting international experts and lecturers
- Promoting graduate programs through embassies and student networks
- Hosting Virtual Open Houses and international education fairs
- Providing scholarships to attract high-potential students
- Designing short-term cultural, language, and technology courses
- Establishing dual-degree programs to expand study opportunities
Outcomes of the Discussions
The ambassadors expressed strong interest in collaboration on personnel development and scholarship opportunities, and provided suggestions to expand promotional efforts by leveraging alumni networks of former students in Thailand.
Preliminary steps were agreed upon to arrange joint meetings between embassies and universities, formalize cooperation frameworks, and enhance curriculum development. These initiatives are expected to attract more international students, deepen academic partnerships, and position Thailand as a hub for regional higher education.
