PILOSOPHY
Doctor of Philosophy Program in Materials Science and Innovation (International Program) offered by College of Graduate Studies, Walailak University, is the multidisciplinary program. In 2019, Walailak University has policy to elevate the quality and impact of the PhD programs to the international recognition. The Doctor of Philosophy Program in Materials Science and innovation (International Program) had been established by combining three combined 3 outstanding PhD programs in Walailak University; Chemistry and Physics from School of Science and Materials Science and Engineering from the School of Engineering and Technology to provide you with a new multidisciplinary program.

This program goal is to produce graduates to meet the requirements of various organizations. Recently, job market needs workers who have 21st century skills coupled with deep material science knowledge. And another important goal of the curriculum update is to develop the potential for knowledge generation to develop into new technologies or innovations in a timely manner in the context of rapidly changing economic competition.

1. Study Plan. Type 1.1 (For Master’s degree holders)
- Ph.D. applicants (Thai or Foreigner) must have a master’s degree in sciences, engineering or other related fields.
- Required English score of 500 points of TOEFL ITP or be equivalent (see English comparison table)
- Other qualifications as approved by the Commission of Graduate Studies of Program.
2. Study Plan. Type 1.2 (For Bachelor’s degree holders)
- Ph.D. applicants (Thai or Foreigner) must have a Bachelor’s degree in sciences, engineering or other related fields.

- Tuition fee per trimester 115,000 Thai Baht for International student
SELECTION PROCESS
- All received applications will be assessed and ranked against the eligible criteria for the available quota by the University committee.
- Outcome will be circulated after the selection process is finalized.
GRADUATION CRITERIA
Two published papers, or at least accepted for publishing, in international scientific journals.

Following regulation of Walailak University on graduate studies, 2017, Category 3. Also, the committee may formulate other criteria.
Other graduate students from other programs in the university can request to study in this program but they must be considered by the committee of the program.

PH.D. applicants (Thai or Foreigner) must have a master’s degree in sciences, engineering or other related fields.

PH.D. applicants (Thai or Foreigner) must have a Bachelor’s degree in sciences, engineering or other related fields.

- PH.D. applicants must have the English exam results in accordance with the criteria, 2017, number 18.1.4.6 and the criteria (version 2), 2017. In addition, for other PH.D. applicants who get external scholarships and have the English exam results at the beginning of admission between 450-499 points will be approved to be general graduate students. Also, they must show their English exam results (TOEFL) that aren’t less than 500 points before requesting to do thesis test for graduation. This will be approved by the Commission of Graduate Studies of Program as well.
