Doctor of Philosophy Program in Agriculture and Food Science
This course focuses on “produce doctoral graduates with comprehensive and in-depth knowledge, as well as the skills and ability to connect and integrate knowledge in agricultural sciences, food science, and related fields. They will be able to conduct research on their own (Independent Researcher)” and produce high-quality research and innovation. This method will foster the development of high-performance researchers who can enhance the competitiveness of the country. Additionally, it will promote the production and service sectors in agriculture and the food industry while raising research to a level suitable for commercial and societal applications. Graduates are expected to have strong moral and ethical values consistent with Walailak University’s educational philosophy, which focuses on developing graduates with high competitiveness under the concept of “Academic Excellence with Professional Skills”. These graduates should embody the qualities of both “good people and smart people” while developing 21st-century learning skills, including creativity and innovation skills, information and communication technology literacy skills, and leadership and responsibility skills.
- It is an integrated course in both agricultural production and processing to add value to agricultural products at the industrial level.
- The teaching and learning process follow the UKPSF framework that focuses on the development of students’ skills in analytical and synthetic thinking, as well as the ability to conduct independent research, with a system to closely and regularly track the progress of thesis work. This ensures that students can complete their studies within the specified time period.
- Teachers and personnel are highly qualified, have specialized knowledge, and cooperate with external networks, including both public and private agencies within and beyond the country.
- Students have access to a modern laboratory equipped with comprehensive scientific instruments for research in agriculture and food science as well as raw material resources including plants, animals, and aquatic animals that are important sources of food to use for research.

Admission Requirements
For Type 1.1
- Applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent or have evidence certifying that you will hold a master’s degree or equivalent in the field of agriculture, food science, or related fields from a higher education institution recognized by the Office of the Higher Education Commission and/or certified by the Office of the Civil Service Commission. Furthermore, they must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00, have research experience and publications in reputable academic journals in that field, or produce patented work. In this regard, admission decisions will consider the qualifications of the students together with the discretion of the program coordinators.
For Type 1.2
- Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent or have evidence certifying that you will hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in the field of agriculture, food science or other related fields from a higher education institution certified by the Office of the Higher Education Commission and/or the Office of the Civil Service Commission. Furthermore, they must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25. In this regard, admission decisions will consider the qualifications of the students together with the program coordinators.
For Type 2.1
- Applicants must have a master’s degree or equivalent or have evidence certifying that you will hold a master’s degree or equivalent in the field of agriculture, food science or other related fields from a higher education institution accredited by the Office of the Higher Education Commission and/or the Office of the Civil Service Commission. Furthermore, they must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00. In this regard, admission decisions will consider the qualifications of the students together with the program coordinators.
For Type 2.2
- Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent or have evidence certifying that you will hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in agriculture, food science or other related fields from a higher education institution accredited by the Office of the Higher Education Commission and/or the Office of the Civil Service Commission. Furthermore, they must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00. In this regard, admission decisions will consider the qualifications of the students together with the discretion of the program coordinators.
– Applicants must meet the English proficiency test score requirements set by the committee of the College of Graduate Studies.
– Have other qualifications in accordance with the Walailak University’s Regulations for Graduate Studies, Semester System (Biateral System), 2022.
– Those who have qualifications other than these are at the discretion of the graduate program committee of the program.

Graduation Requirements
Following Walailak University’s Regulations for Graduate Studies, Semester System (Biateral System), 2022:
- Passed the qualifying examination.
- Passed all courses in the curriculum.
- Type 2 students must have a cumulative grade point average of not less than 3.00.
- Passed the thesis defense examination and already submitted the completed thesis to the university.
- Published paper(s), or at least accepted for publication in an international journal.
